MEDIKUSS Hamburg

Dental hygiene, prevention and prophylaxis counselling

Prevention that is part of treatment. At MEDIKUSS, dental hygiene is more than a professional clean. It combines individual prevention, clear counselling, periodontal aftercare, and close coordination with the treating dentist.

Supportive periodontal therapy (SPT; in German UPT) is structured aftercare after active periodontitis treatment; type and frequency follow findings and individual disease risk.

Personal counselling. Individual care.

Dental hygienist Anja Förster provides professional prophylaxis and dental hygiene at MEDIKUSS. Each visit is adapted to teeth, gums, implants, and existing restorations. Home care, hard-to-reach sites, individual risk factors, and suitable aids are discussed together. Advice should be clear, concrete, and usable day to day. Findings are documented and assessed by the dental team.

Qualified dental hygiene

According to the German Dental Association, qualification as a dental hygienist builds on completed dental vocational training and a demanding advanced qualification. It is currently the highest level of the modular training system for dental team members. Dental hygienist is not a licensed healing profession. Anja Förster’s personal length of training is not stated here.

Supportive care in periodontitis

After dental examination, diagnosis, and active periodontitis treatment, supportive periodontal therapy — SPT, in German UPT — can be an important part of structured aftercare. Depending on findings and disease risk, this may include oral-hygiene checks, further instruction, professional removal of biofilm and deposits, and documentation of periodontal change. Diagnosis, treatment planning, and overall responsibility remain with the treating dentist. Dental-hygiene measures take place within the permitted delegation framework. A professional clean and SPT/UPT are not the same treatment.

Preparation before restorations

High-quality restorations do not begin with preparation, scanning, or the laboratory. Before veneers, crowns, bridges, or implant-supported restorations, teeth, gums, and home-care conditions need careful assessment and preparation. Dental hygiene helps to map deposits and hard-to-reach sites, improve individual oral hygiene, recognise inflammatory changes for dental assessment, prepare care for the planned restoration, and include implants and existing prostheses in prevention. Indication and prosthetic treatment remain with the dentist. Dental hygiene does not guarantee a particular treatment result.

Direct coordination with the treating dentist

Dental hygiene, dental treatment, and dental technology are understood at MEDIKUSS as one connected process. Findings and course are documented and coordinated with the treating dentist, so prevention can be aligned with planned veneers, restorations, implants, or a full-mouth rehabilitation. 109FIFTY is a treatment philosophy and specialist information platform and does not provide medical care.

Care according to individual need

Appointment intervals do not follow a blanket standard scheme. The recommendation follows individual examination and assessment.

  • dental and periodontal findings
  • individual disease risk
  • existing implants
  • type and extent of restorations
  • home oral hygiene
  • previous periodontitis treatment
  • upcoming restorative or prosthetic treatment

Frequently asked questions

Is dental hygiene the same as a professional clean?

No. A professional clean can be part of care. Qualified dental hygiene also includes individual prevention and oral-hygiene counselling, documented follow-up, and — after dental diagnosis and planning — supportive care for periodontal disease, implants, and restorations.

What is supportive periodontal therapy?

Supportive periodontal therapy (SPT; in German UPT) is structured aftercare after active periodontitis treatment; type and frequency follow findings and individual disease risk.

Why is dental hygiene useful before restorations?

Before veneers, crowns, bridges, or implant-supported restorations, teeth, gums, and home-care conditions should be assessed carefully. Dental hygiene can help improve hygienic conditions and prepare later care of the restoration.

Who provides dental hygiene at MEDIKUSS?

Professional prophylaxis and dental hygiene at MEDIKUSS are provided by dental hygienist Anja Förster; findings are coordinated with the treating dentist.

How often are appointments useful?

That depends on individual findings, personal disease risk, a possible periodontitis history, and on implants or existing restorations. The interval is therefore set individually.
